The Next Phase of Subsidised BESS – Where Do We Go From Here?

Time: 11:00 - 11:45
Date: 23.09.25

Synopsis

Entering its final year, the Capacity Market Auctions have been widely regarded successful in creating the foundation of Poland’s energy storage market, and positioning Poland as the leader in the region. In the most recent auction, BESS won 50% more projects than in 2024, up to 2.5GW from 1.7GW. Despite this, there are concerns that gas is being given another chance – so where do we go from here?

  • The derating factor has decreased from 95%, to just 61% in 2024’s most recent auction. With the closing price decreasing from 2022’s PLN 406.35/kW/year, to PLN 264.90/kW/year, what does this mean for the market?
  • New subsidy schemes from the Modernisation Fund, and National Recovery Resiliency Plan could see almost PLN 5 billion available to support the growth of energy storage – how has this been received?
  • Does Poland need more Capacity Market Auctions, or can it stand on its own?
